The kidneys serve a very important function to remove wastes from the blood and excreted in the urine. If the kidneys cannot provide this function, waste will build up in the body and cause damage. While chronic kidney disease (CKD) is common, it can occur (due to high blood pressure, diabetes, age, or other conditions) without any warning. CKD is a silent disease, much like high blood pressure. Early diagnosis is essential to prevent progression of the disease to renal failure.
This section is intended for the general public to assist in finding out if one is at risk for CKD or if they have the disease. Additionally, the section provides info on:
- Symptoms of CKD
- 5 Stages of CKD
- Tests for Kidney Disease
- Calculate GFR
