The available tests for chronic kidney disease are:
- Serum Creatinine – determines kidney function.
- Creatinine Clearance - diagnoses kidney malfunction.
- Urine Microalbumin and Microalbumin/Creatinine Ratio - screens for kidney disorder. Ordered as a screening test for patients with diabetes and hypertension.
- Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (EGFR) or GFR – detects changes in the kidney function.
- Serum Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) - determines kidney function, along with the creatinine. Also used to monitor the status of patients with kidney failure or those on dialysis.
