The National Medical Association (NMA) convened a Diabetes Consensus Panel in Scottsdale, Arizona from January 10-18, 2008. The panel was comprised of experts from research centers, private practices, associations, academic settings, and the public health sector. This paper equally places the ownership of awareness of diabetes on both the physician and patient. The recommendations formulated by the panel are categorized under seven topics:
- Obesity
- Partnerships
- Education
- Treatment Best Practices
- Workforce Development
- Policy and Legislation
- Research
The NMA Diabetes Consensus Panel and resulting paper were sponsored, in kind, by LifeScan. Headquartered in Milpituas, California, LifeScan has provided over two decades of services to diabetic patients.
